Asbestos Mastic Platform Floor Brackets

Asbestos Mastic Platform Floor Brackets

Example of various support brackets for a formerly installed platform floor system. In this case, the black mastic adhesive underneath the metal bracket footings contain asbestos. The adhesive mastic was originally applied to help prevent the brackets from possible movement or slippage causing failure of the platform floor system.

Also depicted are non-asbestos 12" x 12" floor tile and its associated non-asbestos black mastic on the concrete floor substrate surface. However, many of the floor tile debris pieces are now considered contaminated with amounts of the asbestos bracket adhesive and must be treated as an asbestos-containing material (ACM) including disposal as an ACM waste.

Unfortunately, considerations for possible ACMs were not adequately planned in this event and the platform floor was removed improperly causing disturbance of the brackets' asbestos adhesive material resulting in an "emergency" abatement response action.

The spot of clean tomettes (traditional terracotta tiles) may look small, but took me five hours to scour and clean! The hole is where the previous owners apparently tried to see whether the tomettes could be removed... instead they ended up tiling over them.
